Last Swim of the Season

I'll miss our pool when we move to Carey Bay. It has given me so much pleasure (and exercise).

Shorter than walking

Our Grandson took to the water in the backyard ... and he swam across the Bay to visit some friends about 500 or 600 metres away. It was shorter than the walk back.

Blue Lagoon

A popular tourist site just outside of Reykjavik in Iceland is the Blue Lagoon. As we knew that this would be our only trip to Iceland a dip in the warm healing waters was on our agenda.

I expected to find more modest facilities at this site but found a very modern and slick operation. While we were just day visitors we could have opted to stay at the complex hotel and avail ourselves of the spa services on offer.

Once showered and in our swimsuits, as the outside air was rather brisk, we quickly made our way to the pool. It was a relief to enter the warm water. I don't know if the silica mask applied to my face enhanced my complexion but this unique experience was great fun.

A Welcome Distraction

Around 9 o'clock today I got a phone call from a four year old who said "Gummy, can we come for a swim."  Of course I replied that that would be lovely so he, his Dad and two brothers came over for a swim and a few other activities.

Our visit of course started with a fortyfying snack of juice and biscuits which little boys can always devour.  Unfortunately I didn't get any photos in the pool because I was enjoying the water with the boys. I did, however, manage to snap a couple of other activities.

Turds in Paradise

28 November 2012

Ilha Grande is an island and state park in the Rio de Janiero state of Brazil. There is very little development in this extremely attractive area that is blessed with some beautiful beaches.

We spent a wonderful few hours in this area today. After our tender ride from the ship we wandered around the tiny town before finding a shady spot under a tree on a beach not too distant from the pier where we had landed.

The water looked so inviting that I stripped down to my costumes and waddled to the water's edge ready to plunge in. There on the wet sand staring at me were two dog turds; I had a 30 second paddle and headed back to my towel, Although the water looked inviting and I was hot I was not going to swim there. To top it off after I had decided to pass on the swim a dog came along and added to the turd tally near us.

In spite of this Ilha Grande is a beautiful place.
