Iceland in Bloom

Our first port in Iceland was Akureyri. When we signed up for our excursion in this northern port I was surprised to be visiting a Botanical Garden. I certainly got a shock when we were taken to the site as I didn't think there would be much to see in such a challenging environment.

I was taken aback by the pretty and colourful displays in the garden.

Faith in Iceland

On our tour of Iceland I learnt that the major religion followed by about 80% of the population is Lutheran. As we drove around I saw churches in all shapes and sizes. I am not sure, however, which denominations are represented in the following photos.

Neglected Blooms

Although they get very little care the azaleas are blooming in our garden.

Blue Lagoon

A popular tourist site just outside of Reykjavik in Iceland is the Blue Lagoon. As we knew that this would be our only trip to Iceland a dip in the warm healing waters was on our agenda.

I expected to find more modest facilities at this site but found a very modern and slick operation. While we were just day visitors we could have opted to stay at the complex hotel and avail ourselves of the spa services on offer.

Once showered and in our swimsuits, as the outside air was rather brisk, we quickly made our way to the pool. It was a relief to enter the warm water. I don't know if the silica mask applied to my face enhanced my complexion but this unique experience was great fun.
