Hope Springs

We arrived bright and early
Mr Geniaus and I really enjoyed the movie Hope Springs that we saw last night at Castle Hill Event Cinemas Gold Class .

IMDB describes the movie thus "After thirty years of marriage, a middle-aged couple attends an intense, week-long counseling session to work on their relationship."

As an old married couple we enjoyed the movie and could see some parallels with our life and those of our peers.  Mr Geniaus had to sshh me a few times because I was laughing out so loud in the many funny instances in the film. Meryl Streep and Tommy Lee Jones were really believable characters.

Anyone who has survived a long marriage will enjoy this movie.

South Pacific - Starring Lisa McCune and Teddy Tahu Rhodes, with Eddie Perfect & Kate Ceberano

Last night Mr Geniaus and I attended one of the best shows we had seen in ages, South Pacific at the Sydney Opera House. It was a superb performance by the leads Teddy Tahu Rhodes and Lisa McCune supported by a stellar cast.

If you just see one show this year make it South Pacific - you will be assured of an enchanted evening.

The World of the Book

I just can't help myself - I love to own books - the old-fashioned kind - made out of paper.

Yesterday's purchase from the State Library of New South Wales Shop is therefore appropriate. From their bargain table I picked up The World of the book by Des Cowley and Clare Williamson for $29.95 instead of $40.00.

It's a paperback in A4 size with nice heavy paper and lots of lovely colour illustrations. Until I dip into it I can't vouch for its quality but it looks and feels nice. Owners of this title over on Librarything may have more to say about the quality of its content.

The secret is out - Sophie's hamburgers get a mention.

Vale Margaret May

One of my favourite children's authors when I worked in school libraries was Margaret Mahy.

This report on her memorial service comes from the Christchurch Library blog.

More winter warmth

They're certainly no fashion item but my Faux fur lined winter boots purchased for a song from Ross Stores in Salt Lake City are keeping my feet nice and warm.
