In Anno Itinerantur - F is for Funny

In the past year since  travel opened up for Australians Robert and I have taken several journeys at home and overseas. While I posted many photos of these adventures on Facebook I want to leave a more permanent record of some of our adventures. This challenge provides me with opportunities to share my photos and stories while recording some personal history. 

I plan to share photos and stories from our travels between April 2022 and March 2023.  My theme this year is In Anno Itinerantur. 

I find my funny bone being regularly tickled as I travel the world. Today I am sharing a few of of those moments.

I did a double take when I saw this at Sydney airport as Islay is known for single malt whiskeys

. Apparently some entrepreneurial soul is hoping to serve "the Gin and Tonic" set.

When out on tour in Papua New Guinea I looked down and saw that the two people beside me were wearing the same brand athletic shoes as me. We had a communal "singing the praises of Hoka shoes" and as a result an onlooker went back to the ship and ordered a pair online.

We were pleased to get a voucher for a free drink in our Bali Accommodation. We had no choice in what we would have - it was a serving of orange cordial in a teeny tiny glass - Barely a mouthful for Robert.

Can't remember where we picked up this fridge magnet up but someone thought it described me!

 The beverage of choice for most of our family members was soft drink.

There were touches of humour in some of the displays in the Vivid Festival in Sydney. As the proud descendant of ten transported convicts I particularly enjoyed this one.

We didn't take the opportunity to purchase an ice-cream or cool drink at the Ice Village in Tomamu, Japan where all the furnishings were made of ice.

 brought a smile to my face. I guess her feet were warm on the cold January day.

A Touch of Germany in Chatswood?

 Last night in Chatswood we had a lovely post dance concert celebration dinner with a large family group. 

Of course our two granddaughters were stars of the show at the Concourse, kudos also the the organisers who produced a slick show at the family friendly time of 4pm. 

For our dinner we adjourned to The Bavarian Chatswood a family friendly restaurant not too far from the theatre. We had a super time chatting about the performances and revelling in the excitement of our two dancers. 

What struck me was that some of the items on the "German inspired" menu didn't reflect my memories of beer cafes and restaurants I'd visited in Germany. It was interesting that I, and the three people around me, ordered that German staple "YOUR ALL-TIME FAVOURITE PARMI: Golden crumbed chicken, prager ham, mozzarella, napolitana".  I added some authenticity to my serve with a potato salad accompaniment while the others chose fries!

The huge serving was hot and delicious but was too much for my delicate appetite! I'm sure that today Paddy will enjoy the half of the schnitzel that I wrapped in a few napkins and brought home for him. 

No name

After more than a year our boat remains nameless. 

This morning, as I was going through old photos, I came across this photo taken in 2014 at St Lucia in the Caribbean.

Tip Sea

Perhaps we should consider Tip Sea as a name for our boat.

Main Crouse

Had a wonderful day out in Sydney last Saturday taking advantage of a Christmas 2019 gift of tickets to a live show, Nine to Five. Thanks to Covid and the show being rescheduled we had to wait over two years to use our gift.

Our daughter accompanied us on our trip to Sydney which, because we used all the toll roads, only took us 90 minutes. That gave us time for a leisurely lunch at Capital Thai, a restaurant conveniently located next door to the Capitol Theatre. We enjoyed an appetiser and two Main Crouses from the menu.

I was rather nervous about attending a show in the city but was comforted by the Covid Plan the theatre had in place. We were able to enter the theatre early and we waited until most of the patrons had left before we made our departure.

Masked up and it wasn't Phantom of the Opera

The show was lively and colourful with good vocal performances and serious messages. Can you believe that one of the stars, Marina Prior, is now 58 years old? Was it really 30 years ago that we saw her play Christine Daaé in Phantom of the Opera? 

Insufficient postage

Robert is currently tidying his stamp collection that has been sitting unloved in the garage for twenty plus years. In among the jumble he found a treasure he had saved from his working days as Town Clerk at Waverley.

One of the ratepayers had a unique approach to insufficient postage on a letter sent to council.

A Laugh from the National Trust

30 July 2018

It was raining yesterday when we visited Beatrix Potter's Hill Top Farm, a National Trust property in Cumbria. The good people from the Trust who look after the property were anxious to keep the rain out of Beatrix's house. They loaned those of us waiting to enter the property umbrellas bearing the National Trust logo and the words "I'm keeping drips out of Hill Top"

A new word for me...

...but I got what they meant.
