Chilly Chile

27 November 2019

Good morning from Chilly Chile as we pass the Amalia Glacier. We were treated to cool views and calm seas when we opened our curtains.

Río Simpson National Reserve

I didn't expect to find a lovely reserve with an English name deep in the Patagonian region in Chile. Our excursion from the ship today took us through some spectacular scenes as we made our way to the reserve on the banks of the Rio Simpson.

There we found a modern administration building that housed some interesting interpretive displays and clean, modern toilets. After a talk from a local guide we were let loose to take a stroll on a path around the site. We enjoyed our perambulation and the opportunity to record some memories on our cameras.

Mural Mania

 22 November 2019

We came across so much graffiti/street art in Valparaiso, Chile. I find it hard to distinguish when graffite becomes street art.

Some of these "Bus photos" have a yellow glow due to the tinted windows.

Mummy Museum

 21 November 2019

Today we drove from Arica in Chile through the desert to visit a marvellous museum, Museo Arqueologico San Miguel de Azapa, which holds some of the oldest mummies in the world. We passed a few interesting sites along the way but the Mummies were the highlight of my day.

There were many instances of political and protest slogans in Arica

These representations of Llamas on the hillside are said to be 1,000 yea
rs old!!!

There were some arable areas along the way...

and a lot of desert

There were many displays that didn't feature Mummies

Back in town we visited a viewpoint...

Praying in Chile

We visited two contrasting churches in Arica, Chile. The Cathedral of San Marco designed by Gustave Eiffel was prefabricated, shipped to Chile and put together on site. The small church in the artisans' village was brightly painted in typical fashion.
