Sunburn Territory

As per usual I carefully applied SPF30 sunscreen to my dial before we set out for our day in London. As I was wearing a shirt with 3/4 sleeves and long pants I didn't apply sunscreen to any other areas. I'm amazed to report that I have a pink patch of sunburn on my neck.

Apart from that we had a wonderful day re-orienting ourselves in this magnificent city mostly from the top deck of a double-decker bus. For the next four days we'll be taking to the streets for further exploration and a couple of cultural highlights.

Meanwhile these examples of signage will tell you a a little about our day.

Better than sightseeing

Around ten years ago my niece moved overseas to live; since that time I have only seen her on half a dozen occasions. Yesterday, in Munich, my daughter and I caught up with my niece who is only six weeks older than my daughter.

I so enjoyed sitting down with the girls and chatting for four hours. When we felt we had worn out our welcome at one restaurant we moved onto another Being able to catch up with a family member was so much more rewarding than another day of sightseeing; I am so pleased that my niece travelled into Munich to meet up with us.

I didn't know what to expect with our flight with Air Niki from Vienna to Munich this evening and was pleasantly surprised.

The plane was clean and new, the staff were young and friendly and  were decked out in pink polo shirts and jeans. The plane was in time leaving and during the flight we were served a drink and a sandwich.

On arrival we took an SBahn train from the airport to the city. Our trip was rather painless.

While our digs at the Holiday Inn aren't quite as ritzy as the Intercontinental they are clean, comfortable and convenient to the city and SBahn.

Out and about

The temperature in Bratislava yesterday reached 30c and there were people out and about everywhere.

Couldn't eat it

Lunch was included in our trip to Bratislava today.

Neither Jennifer or I could eat the entree, "Cheese Roll", that consisted of a slice of rolled up tasty cheese filled with a cream cheese mixture and sprinkled with parsley. It was just too rich.

Cold memories

Tomorrow I am visiting Bratislava in Slovakia. Last time I visited this beautiful little city was in January several years ago; it was perishingly cold, the city was covered in snow and the river was frozen over.  The forecast for tomorrow is 29c.

I wonder if I will recognise these places.

 

I won't be wearing a hat, coat and boots tomorrow!
