3c's at the airport

 26 November 2018

3Cs - champagne, chips and chandeliers make the preflight wait in Johannesburg more comfortable as I contemplate an error I made with our booking.

I thought I had booked Business Class seats for our long leg from Joburg to London and Premium Economy for the short hop from London to Lisbon. Alas, I got it wrong and we are facing the long ride in Premium Economy and the short one in Business!!!

Airport Facilities

I am often surprised by the facilities found in airports. I have been tempted by the massages, pedicures and manicures at Salt Lake City International but not at all by the Pokies (Slot machines) I saw today at McCarran International Airport in Las Vegas.

Dear Heathrow Airport

Where's the grass?

In Australia we common people call that green stuff Ivy and the posh people call it Hedera.

Butterflies banished

Now that I am settled in the Qantas Club at Sydney airport and have a glass of bubbly under my belt I find that the butterflies that invaded my tummy gave mysteriously vanished.

And so the journey begins, I am looking forward to fun times with my daughter and to watching my granddaughter perform in a dance festival in Prague.

From time to time I will blog about about our experiences. My daughter is also going to join the Blogisphere so I'll share her URL when she gets going.

The finish line is in sight

We have been on a race through Europe, Britain and South America over the past nine+ weeks. I ambitiously thought I might post every day but touring and discovering got in the way. I will be posting more of my photos and  memories some time soon.

I am now sitting in Santiago airport in Chile wsiting to be called for the final leg of our journey.
We have been fortunate to have such a marvellous experience.

If you get a chance to travel...just do it.

Better than most

 10 December 2012

In Santiago, Chile - part way home - 3 hours and one flight done. Only 16 hours and one more flight and we'll be home. This is by far the best American Airlines Admirals Club Lounge we have ever used - it is nearly as good as British Airways and Qantas!

Hairpin Bend

Our room at The Fairmont Hotel in Monte Carlo is labelled as a Hairpin Bend Room - in other words it does not have a panoramic view of the Mediterranean but a view of one of the tightest hairpin bends on the Monaco Grand Prix circuit so at that time of the year it would be a premium room. Presently it is just an ordinary room that they try to make sound special with a bit of marketing spin.

It was just a 90 minute flight from London's Gatwick Airport to Nice Airport where a quiet young man was waiting with a nice car to whisk us to our hotel. Gatwick which we reached in 35 minutes on the Gatwick Express train was a much quieter and less crowded airport than Heathrow. In Nice we were greeted by brilliant blue skies and a comfortable temperature of 19 degrees.

Already we have met some of our fellow cruisers and all are enthusiastically looking forward to being collected at 12:15 pm tomorrow for delivery to our ship that is moored just near our hotel. Our first job when we get on board is to find the laundry and wash our clothes; some of them are suffering from being washed in washbasins and baths for the last five weeks. A woman's work is never done!

There is a wedge of waterview from The Hairpin Bend Room
The Monte Carlo Casino is right next door

The artworks in the hotel remind me of someone

Spied our ship as we had dinner in the hotel lounge

It was easy to choose a bevvy to accompany dinner
As we get ready to go to bed Monte Carlo is waking up
