One of our neighbours is a keen fisherman who has used some ingenuity to partially automate the process.
He has fixed some lengths of plastic pipe into the ground on his property but close to the shoreline. He then baits up his lines, casts them out, rests them in the pipes and waits for the fish to bite. I presume he keeps watch from his backyard or from inside the house.
