After more than a year our boat remains nameless.
This morning, as I was going through old photos, I came across this photo taken in 2014 at St Lucia in the Caribbean.

As we had previously visited the port and done a rather extensive tour of the major sights we opted to have a slow day and wander around the historic old town by ourselves. I could easily spend a week on this delightful island.
I just managed to sort and label our photos this morning so, while it's fresh in my mind I'll share a few.
View of the Old City from our balcony |
First stop - a Church |
The French are here |
Many cats call Rhodes home
There are old and new trades |
Lots of restaurants and watering holes |
Souvenirs around many corners |
One of the squares |
Local Dragons |
There are some peaceful corners |
The locals feed the stray animals |
Looking back to the Harbour |
Waiting to go on the field |
Facing off the opposition |
I had forgotten all about the Blood Moon last night until I saw a post on social media.
I grabbed my phone and ran out on the balcony to grab some images. I didn't stay long as it was a bit chilly outside when only wearing my nightdress!
While I should have grabbed the camera which has a bigger zoom I'm happy with this distant picture that I captured.
Copied below is a post I shared on my GeniAus Blog on Monday about joining up to a community on Mastodon. You can find my profile in the toot.community here: https://toot.community/web/@JillBallAu
Since Monday I have added to my Following list at Mastodon and picked up more Followers. I have experimented with two Android apps so I can toot (post) from my phone. I am experimenting with creating lists of tooters to follow (time-consuming), so far I have Genies (family history enthusiasts) and Aussies.
I need to learn more than just the basics but have generally found the platform quite intuitive.
Monday's Post follows.
Since Twitter's recent purchase by Elon Musk I am wondering what lies ahead for that platform. Many people in the Twitterverse are predicting dark days ahead for this platform. I hope these predictions are baseless and I can keep tweeting.
I'm a believer in INSURANCE (car, health, house, travel etc.). It didn't take me too long to arrange some insurance in case I find that changes that will come to Twitter under its new ownership unpalatable.
Yesterday Daniel Loftus in Ireland was recommending Mastodon as a viable Twitter alternative in his Twitter feed. As I know Daniel is a cluey chap who is on top of tech issues I joined up to one of the Mastodon servers. I discovered that several of my genimates had already joined the #TwitterExodus or put a contingency plan in place by setting up an account on Mastodon.
My Profile needs some more editing |
It didn't take long for me to join up and get the hang of this new-to-me platform, I've still a lot to learn but I think I'm going to like it. I have been working on my laptop with the desktop app but last night I also installed the Android app on my phone.
By this morning I had built up a small list of interesting folk to follow. Once I found some people that I knew on Mastodon I checked their lists of followers/following to add people to my list - easy.
If you join up to any Mastodon server you can follow me via this link : @JillBallAu@toot.community
If you are on Twitter and need an Insurance Policy how about Tooting with me?
On the 27th December 2021 the Goodwill Librarian launched on Facebook her 2022 reading challenge. I made a hasty decision to join this challenge.
Each month I will report my progress in reading books that fulfil her criteria. I will add a link to the Librarything entry for each criterion I tick off.
You can see the full list of the challenge criteria here.
As I was travelling overseas during the second half of September and all October I didn't manage to meet the three remaining challenges. My husband and I were so busy and learning about new places that I only managed to read a couple of books.
Now that we are settled back at home I am sure that I will be able to complete the remaining three challenges below by the end of December.
35. Only published as an ebook
40. On audiobook read by the author
45. About current events
The few books I read in September and October can be seen on my Librarything or GoodReads accounts.
