I was rather taken with one of the resort towns we visited in Sardinia today. The buildings were modern and the public areas well designed and inviting.
I wouldn't mind returning to Porto Cervo for a longer stay but I imagine that the prices there may match the sophistication of the environment there.
Prior to travelling there by a speedy boat from Portofino we had never heard about Comogli on the Italian Riviera.
We first visited San Fruttuoso, a tiny, forest-lined inlet only accessible by boat or by foot, then made our way to the busy dock in Comogli. After a short walking tour of this fishing village and holiday spot we meandered along the seaside promenade and had a refreshing Coca-Cola in one of the many seaside bars.
As this was the second time our ship visited Civitavecchia during our current journey we passed on an excursion to Rome and selected Ostia Antica which was much closer to the port. We were thrilled with our choice.
The Ostia Antica site compares favourably with Pompeii and, on our visit, wasn't overrun with tourists. It was hot but we managed to find a few shady spots during our explorations. We would highly recommend this tour to fellow Regent travellers.

At the conclusion of our tour we were driven to the beachside town of Ostia where we were treated to a delicious gelato.
