Second time lucky

8 September 2017

The very first time we tried to visit the Giant's Causeway in Ireland we were travelling in a rental car on a very warm summer's Sunday in July. We were unable to find a parking spot in the parking area or a spot on the road anywhere within a reasonable walking distance of the site. We gave up and vowed that we would return to Ireland and try to visit when it was not so busy.

Today as we visited on a small group tour the weather was inclement with light showers. Thankfully our minibus was parked close to the entrance of the Giant's causeway site. We had finally made it. As I have a crook leg I took the shuttle bus down to the shoreline while Mr GeniAus walked down with some other members of our tour group.

We were fortunate that the misty rain disappeared and the sun came out to say hello while we were wandering around the site with its amazing and unusual rock formations. As the uneven ground was rather dangerous for someone whose not steady on their pins I didn't walk out onto the rocks but just spent my time taking photographs and observing those who were clambering all over the place. The rock formations are rather rare, I have only seen something similar at one site in Iceland.

September was a more sensible time to visit this site.

Will we find a parking spot?
