As I travel the world I take many photos that pique my interest. During the year April 2025 to March 2026 our travels included visits to many islands large and small. My theme for 2026 Island Hopping will give precedence to Islands visited in the past year but for those difficult letters like X and Z I will dig into my photo archives for content.
We had quite the adventure after being transferred from ourship to Hanavave by Zodiac. Once on land we were allocated with another couple to a local driver and her car. As there isn't commercial transportation on the island the cuise company uses local to drive passengers around.
For the first leg of our adventure we drove overland Hanuvave to Omoa. As the driver had little English I used my SchoolGirl French to communicate with her, there was lots of laughs and miscommunication! The road was narrow and mostly unsealed but the scenery was spectacular. Unfortunately sitting in the backseat and travelling along bumpy roads was not ideal for photography.

On top of the world we made a stop for photos

Our convoy on the road
On arrival in Omoa, a larger town, we were entertained by locals in a field, there were several stalls selling local goods for those who were inclined to part with their tourist dollars. As there were no fridge magnets for sale I refrained from making a purchase.
On arrival, after being leied, we made our way to the grassy area, visited the conveniences and found a seat in the shade for the show.

On our walk to the Zodiacs we spotted the beach and local artefacts.
Not a bad likeness...of me!
The last leg of our journey took us down the coast from Omoa and back to the ship
Loading up for our cruise down the coast.
Although I'm not a fan of Zodiac travel I enjoyed the cruise down the coast with the wind blowing through my hair an seaspray keeping me cool. The sights were pretty good too.

The husband was busy taking photos too
Lunch is waiting
While I was satisfied with the morning's explorations my Husband went back into Hanavave to look around the town.
I had hoped to visit French Polynesia but sadly I think it’s off the agenda, so thanks for sharing it with us. I would be very nervous about the zodiacs but I guess they must be safe enough.
After that cruise was over I told Robert that I was never again going on a journey that involved Zodiacs and we still had the Galapagos to go. The crew on the National Geographic boarded the zodiacs from the stern of the ship which was more comfortable for this old girl.
