Last Saturday we travelled up to Lake Macquarie to look at a few properties. We had no intentions of buying anything, it was just a research trip as we thought it would be nice to have a place near the lake and our two daughters.
I was particularly taken by one property that was open for inspection for the first time. It wasn't too flash but it was a solid property (potential!) with a nice position on the lake, it isn't too far from shops and services and has a government bus running right by the door. There seemed to be quite a bit of interest in the property or were they neighbourhood stickybeaks?
It is on a large block with a beautiful front garden |
On our journey home and the next day we had long discussions and made a rash decision to put in an offer.
The Backyard helped make our decision |
On calling the agent on Monday we found that we weren't the only people interested, several other offers had been made. The agent made the decision to conduct a silent auction; each interested party was to submit a bid in a sealed envelope to the agent by yesterday, Wednesday. The highest bid would snag the property. We had a couple of anxious days to wait until we heard at 5:45pm yesterday that we were the successful bidders. That two people who take ages to select a packet of breakfast cereal at the supermarket can make such an important decision is super quick time has me bewildered.
We are thrilled with our purchase. We are not sure whether we will use this as a holiday house and retain our Sydney pad or sell our Sydney property and buy an apartment in the city. Perhaps we may even sell up and make a permanent move to the Lake. In the interim we plan to divide our time between our two homes.
We look forward to making a few changes and putting our stamp on the Lake House.
Can we transform this ugly duckling? |
