Land ahoy!

Have been sailing around in a circle because the pilot in Charleston asked our Captain to delay our arrival in Charleston because there is another ship, the Regatta, still berthed where we are scheduled.

I am pleased to report that over lunch I saw the pilot climb onto our ship and that I can now spot land ahoy.

Charleston here we come.

No dragons here

17 April, 2013

This is the second of my posts for today.

After two nights in Hamilton, Bermuda, we upped anchor and sailed to historic St Georges, a World Heritage town, just 17 nautical miles away. Here we spent a day in the drizzle exploring the old buildings and drinking in the charm of this northernmost town in Bermuda.

Colourful buildings also abound in St Georges

Friendly welcome from the local constabulary
Trial re-enactment in the town square
Guilty - Punishment - Dunking
That sinking feeling
Wet and repentant
A very old Anglican Church
Very different architecture from European churches
The segregated graveyard
Victorian era home
Coastline - looks stunning even in lousy weather
Congrats to our Captain for navigating this narrow channel
Rough water for the pilot boat that came to collect the pilot (below)

It was all beautiful except for the weather

17 April, 2013.

The sun has just appeared after taking a three day break during our time in Bermuda. We took bus, taxi and walking tours in this beautiful, small country and our enthusiasm for the nation was not dampened..

It was a beautiful sail into Hamilton past small islands, seacraft of all sizes and a rainbow of homes lining the shores.  Our ship pulled up conveniently in Front Street, Hamilton the Capital of Bermuda just across the road from shops and cafes.

Now it's a day at sea (with sunshine) before we hit mainland US and visit Charleston, Savannah and Cape Canaveral. I will split this post in two as I have quite a number of snaps from Bermuda to share.

Move over - we're coming

We could nearly touch the shops across the road from our ship's balcony
Colourful houses
Beautiful Beaches
Even the churches are painted up
Lots of resorts and golf courses
Everything is expensive - $10,000 for this boat
Water everywhere
Old Naval Dockyard - Now a tourist trap
Transport for our taxi tour

Main Street Location

What a great place for a ship to dock in Front Street, Hamilton, Bermuda.

Sun, sea and sand

Spent a pleasant morning at Great Stirrup Cay in The Bahamas.

Art Deco

On the night prior to our cruise we stayed at South Beach in Miami at Mr Geniaus' request as he was keen to have a look around the 800 or so Art Deco buildings in the Miami Beach Historic Architectural District.

As well as going for a stroll on Wednesday evening we spent a couple of hours exploring the area before boarding our cruise ship yesterday. Our cameras went with us on our excursion. Aren't the buildings just amazing.

Some buildings even have cars to match

Pink and pretty

A work in progress

I was captivated by this doorway

We enjoyed our exploration so much that we will try to take The Art Deco Walking Tour when our ship returns to Miami.
